TRAGEDY!

With TRAGEDY! STEFAAN DEGAND embraces Carmen, the femme fatale of the opera. As director, Degand gets to work on a radical adaptation of Georges Bizet's hit opera. He reduces Bizet's opera to its essence: the tragedy of Carmen. The result is a rock-solid theatre performance, coloured by Bizet's evocative music, including Carmen's 'Habanera', Escamillo's 'Toréador' and Don José's 'Bloemenlied'.

Conductor Michiel Delanghe and his ensemble deCompagnie will accompany the young singing talent of the International Opera Academy. It will certainly not be a classic Carmen performance…
Actor Stefaan Degand and deCompagnie choose to strip the performance of all bombastic elements and superfluities. The music and the text are the stage. The characters are the flesh, the blood and the life.
