BANQUET! (9+)

With BANKET!, deCompagnie established itself as the ensemble for musical theatre.

Together with director Tom Goossens, house composer Mathias Coppens worked on a new score, based on the work “Macbeth” by Giuseppe Verdi and William Shakespeare.

The Macbeth couple leaves a child for dead. Just as in Verdi's opera Macbeth during a festive banquet the ghost of the murdered Banco appears to his murderers, so in this terrifying adaptation a group of mysterious children appears to the Macbeths and swears revenge. In this new music theatre production by Opera Vlaanderen for children, questions are asked about anger, fear and rage.

With elements from Shakespeare's masterful play and Verdi's musical masterpiece, theatre maker Tom Goossens and composer Mathias Coppens create a radical adaptation for children aged 9 and up. A singer takes on the role of Mrs Macbeth, an actor plays Mr Macbeth. The leading role, however, is reserved for the fantastic Children's Choir of Opera Vlaanderen. BANKET! promises to be a musical theatre experience that will scare the living daylights out of you!
